What is Food?

Using creativity and imagination, students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Students learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.

Why is this subject important? 

Food technology is an inspiring, rigorous, knowledge and skills based practical subject. As part of their work with food, students are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition, how to obtain a balanced lifestyle alongside, taking into consideration and showing knowledge of special dietary needs, cultures and the changing society we live in. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables students to feed themselves and others taking into consideration the changing economy. 

What is the purpose of the subject? 

Food technology is much more than just cooking, it the food and technology curriculum. Additionally, students also develop a critical understanding of the impact of food  on their daily life and the wider world.  Fundamentally, Food technology and the community we serve have an essential role in the lives of our students.emcompasses health, hygiene, nutrition, food science and maths.  It provides cross curriculum links and facilitates students planning, designing, evaluation, preparation and realism.
