In the first game of the season Cardinal Wiseman took on Bishop Walsh away and came back with a 3-0 victory.

Cardinal started the game positively, keeping possession and playing good attacking football.

George Battenbough opened the scoring with a powerful solo goal; a pile-driver after less than 15 minutes from outside the box. Moments later Callum Brookes split the home defence with a through ball to Ben Campbell but the shot was straight at the keeper.

Ryan Best teed up with Ben Campbell to deliver a beautiful ball to Jamie Capenhurst which was volleyed into the net.

After a change of ends Cardinal were still dominating possession when Ryan Best picked up the ball 20 yards out, beat his man and finessed it beyond the keeper. He dedicated his goal to Miss Nuttall’s twins, with a baby celebration. Cardinal had many chances to score more but did not capitalise on their opportunities.

Student Report – Good Shepherd’s Mass by Abigail Whyke (year 8)

I went to St Chad’s Cathedral in   Birmingham on Monday 22nd September. It was a good experience; we sang some   hymns, which were new to me. Connor Jeffries and Weronika Wojick read the   bidding prayers. At the end of the Mass we had our picture taken with the Archbishop   of Birmingham; this was a wonderful opportunity and a great privilege. After   Mass we all went to the Grimshore Rooms where we all gathered together and   ate food and talked to other pupils who were involved in Chaplaincy in their   school. All in all I had fun and a great laugh with people in my team; I   can’t wait for the next gathering together.goodshepherd1
