Vision for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School
As a Catholic community, we embrace and celebrate the differences between us, including all of the different levels of need that our students have. This unconditionally loving approach strives to reduce the disadvantage caused by special educational needs or disabilities, (SEND), and to ensure that all students can integrate positively and access their learning opportunities fully. All of our staff are aware of the SEND in our school, and are committed to their responsibility to make the necessary adjustments to support these. As a relatively small school, we are proud of how well we know each of our students as individuals, and are responsive to their emerging needs.
Our curriculum pathway cultivates high aspirations and the functional skills required for successful outcomes when our students with SEND leave us for post16 destinations. Staff scaffold and consolidate learning to address gaps in skills or knowledge. There is additional support for students with social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language difficulties, and a range of diagnoses, including autism and ADHD. Close collaboration with the safeguarding and pastoral teams develops students’ wellbeing and ability to thrive within our culture for learning.
Within our ethos of Omnia Pro Christo, (All For Christ), the compassion of our school community empowers our students with SEND to live out the mission of the Wiseman virtues during their time with us and beyond
