To limit breaches in security in both Eportal and the Intranet could all staff ensure they follow the advice outlined below:

• Change passwords regularly;
• Never give out passwords to students;
• Take care when entering passwords that students are not watching or that you have the projector on and you accidentally display your password by typing it in the wrong place;
• Do not store passwords in Internet Explorer;
• Do not leave computers logged on to either Eportal or the Intranet and leave them unattended;
• Report to Arron Probyn or Simon Burley any unusual entries or data appearing in students’ records in Eportal;
• To back up your laptop, copy your files to the server H drive or copy them to a Memory stick CD or DVD. The H drive on the server is backed up every night. (Remember not to physically transport such backups out of school unless the data is encrypted.)

With the increasing amount of ICT facilities it is important that we work together to maintain them properly. It is the responsibility of any member of staff using ICT facilities during the last period of the day to ensure that students Shut Down all of the computers. It only takes a few seconds to correctly shutdown the computers and projectors at the end of a lesson. However if all computers are left on it takes support staff a lot longer when locking up at the end of the day. It is also important that the individual computers that are now in every classroom are shutdown at the end of each day.
