In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation, in which people are invited to come back into the right relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation. 2025’s theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can "restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone". We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God's creation in which we understand ourselves as "pilgrims on the earth" rather than masters of the world.
At Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, we have worked to ensure that all in our community have had the opportunity to be evangelised as Pilgrims of Hope this year.
Our Year Sevens planned, delivered and evaluated a fundraising day for Fr Hudson’s Caritas.
Our Year Eights had a competition to gain as many Faith Filled and Hopeful merits as they could over the course of a term. Altogether they received 6,474 over a half term - this increased over 600%! 8Francis received over 2000 and had a party to celebrate.
Our Year Nines planned, delivered and evaluated a Celebrating Diversity Day to celebrate the incredible diversity in our school community.
Our Year Tens and Elevens planned and delivered a school sleep out to raise awareness and money to support homelessness in our city. After a candlelit mass, we slept outside to demonstrate our solidarity with those in our city who have to do so each day.
Our Chaplaincy Team was able to go on Pilgrimage to Oscott College. We walked there and back (5 miles in total!) and were given a tour of the seminary by Deacon Diego and celebrated mass. We even got to meet Archbishop Bernard!
Our staff were blessed to go on Pilgrimage to Westminster Cathedral on one of our Teacher Training Days. There, our school patron, Cardinal Wiseman, is buried in the Crypt. Fr Simon celebrated mass with us in the Crypt - this was an incredible experience for our school staff.
